| My dogs (male and female, from same litter) are now 8 months old and walking them is becoming a real chore. They know I'm boss and do listen to me most of the time....................................but when walking on the lead they both pull like trains and if we see cat or another dog it takes all my strength to hold them. Any advice? | |||

| Thanks for your answers.Yes,I should start training him by myself from day 1.But I mean,when he should start a training class.The trainer of a training class said that Cos should start training when they are 4 months old.What happens if a Co starts a training class at 6 months?Or 6 months?Can't he be trained by the trainer? | |||

Jack, You may have missed my point. You should train the dog yourself. You do not want a "trainer" messing up your dog. Most of them do not understand the CO and will use generic methods which could yield unsatisfactory results. You must be the one to handle your dog at all times. |

I am spending a lot of time training my new dog on my own at home but eventually I plan to take him to a training class for my own reasons. I'll probably wait till we have had him for a while longer. He's almost a year old but has only been with us a few weeks. I want him to be able to tolerate going into other environments with me and pay attention to me and not be freaked out by the presence of other people near us. I figure that in a controlled or safe setting he should be able to tolerate the presence of other people nearby and he really needs practice at this. Someday I will have to take this fellow to a vet appointment, a waiting room with other people in it that he will have to deal with. That is my main reason for wanting to socialize my dog to people a bit more, I think he is a risk for fear-biting and this concerns me. I know CO's are not generally fearful or shy but mine appears to be. | ||
