I wasn't entirely sure where this should be posted, so sorry if it's in the wrong place. I am in the process of trying to find a new service dog. My current one if a medical alert dog, a Chihuahua. His vet is pushing for him to be retired, and my condition has gotten worse. Since I cannot rely on getting another natural alerter, I need a response dog. I will need this dog to do basic hearing tasks, basic guide tasks, miscellanious tasks, and intermediate mobility tasks. Now, I'm taller than average and I *hate* those mobility harnesses, so I need a BIG dog. Some time ago, I began researching the ochvarka. I rememberd that I liked what I was reading, but I never actually talked to anyone about the breed. So, I thought before I got too invested in looking for one of these dogs, I should ask those in the know: would this breed make a good service dog? Please keep in mind that a service og needs to handle all sorts of environments and annoyances, as well as keep a head about it in an emergency. Thanks in advance. |

This breed will NOT be a good service. There are many other breeds that are much suited for that kind of work. The CO temperament and disposition is not what you want. You may consider the Great Dane, Rhodesian Ridgeback, or Weimeraner
